Wishing Well was recently honored by Sustainable Tompkins at their annual "Signs of Sustainability" awards. These signs are evidence of a growing regional community of businesses, organizations and individuals for whom sustainability is a priority in their enterprises.

Many of these Signs of Sustainability, as well as other green-minded local professionals will be gathering with The Green Resource Hub tonight, December 14, at La Tourelle Resort and Spa as they celebrate the past year of achievements and invite community members to join the Sustainable Enterprise and Entrepreneurs Network (SEEN), being launched in the new year. 

Wishing Well is thrilled to be a charter member of the SEEN and will be there, welcoming new members to the network. Whether you have been running a green business for years or just thinking about starting one, please join us tonight in working toward a sustainable future for our entire community.

Last month we joined Shaleshock Citizens Action Alliance to help protect our communities from the exploitation of our natural resources by gas drilling companies.

On December 5, more than 1,600 individuals came together at Ithaca's State Theatre to take action as The Horse Flies, The Sim Redmond Band and Donna the Buffalo performed to raise awareness about the natural gas harvesting practice known as hydrofracking.

More than 6,500 individuals have already voiced their concern by signing the coalition letter urging Governor Paterson to withdraw the current DEC regulations in the effort to prevent damage to our water supplies and ecosystems.  

We believe so deeply in this effort, that we volunteered our time to help our community by creating the print program for the concert, as well as a virtual concert experience to continue the evening's important work. We thank the many businesses who contributed to the program. Together we raised over $1600 to benefit Shaleshock in addition to ticket and merchandise sales. While it is unlikely that hydrofracking chemicals will turn our community into a mob of flesh eating zombies, there is a very real concern about how gas drilling would affect our water, our health and our lives. Frac Attack: Dawn of the Watershed is a short environmental zombie film that takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the effects of unsafe gas drilling on our local population.

Lily Gershon, a member of The Dacha Project and an actor in the film says, “For me, Frac Attack was another way to express the ridiculousness of natural gas drilling. If poisoning our own water supply isn't ludicrous enough, then how about zombies?”

The making of this film was truly a group effort, co-produced by Shirari Industries and the Dacha Project, it brought together more than 70 community members. The film makers celebrated the World Premiere on December 10 at Cinemapolis. Frac Attack can be viewed in its entirety online.
